The year is 20XX…

First of all, this isn’t about Smash Bros. Melee.  If you don’t know what I’m talking about, that’s fine.  Ignore this paragraph.

Twenty-ecksty-ecks is a “roguelite” game in the style of Megaman X.  I originally backed it on Kickstarter quite some time ago (and under a different name) with fairly high hopes that it would turn out well and I was not disappointed.

20XX does as good a job as could reasonably be expected of matching the feel of Megaman X while also having the procedurally generated typical of a roguelite. The movement and abilities feel almost spot on, and we get two main characters who are, essentially, X and Zero with different names. DLC adds a third character who is kind of like Axl maybe, when you squint, if that’s your thing.

If you can stomach proc-gen and are a fan of the Megaman style of gameplay then this is one worth checking out. The power and abilities provide a good variety of gameplay, and the procedural levels use enough common components that you can still reasonably “learn” the game and have stages start to become familiar after a few runs.
